Vienna City Fly

We are excited to announce that  our first newspaper article for the FAIRiCUBE Use Case has been published.

In this use case we aim to combine earth observation and genomics data to study the evolutionary history of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. Using machine learning approaches, we further aim to identify combinations of environmental factors that may influence the genetic diversity in natural populations which will help us to better understand the impact of climate change on the accelerating biodiversity crisis.

Last week we started outreach for our Citizen Science project “Vienna City Fly”. We want to encourage potential helpers with a webpage and a registration survey,  the aim is to sample Drosophila melanogaster from April to October in Vienna with their help. Already 50 volunteers registered within the first week.

The national newspaper “Heute” helped us spreading the news and survey, also mentioning @FAIRiCUBE in their article.
